Amit Sharma ,Rajouri : Pledging to boost languages, Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Prof. Irshad Ahmed Hamal has said that languages bring the people closer, infuse nationalism and enrich the culture and University will definitely play its role in boosting the languages.
Addressing participants in One day workshop on “Linguistics importance & aspects”, organized by the Department of Arabic in the Conference Hall, Prof. Hamal said that the importance of language is essential to every aspect and interaction in our everyday lives. He said that we use language to inform the people around us of what we feel, what we desire, and understand the world around us. He added that we communicate effectively with our words, gestures, and tone of voice in a multitude of situation. Vice Chancellor said that the language is a means of expression and allows a person to participate in community activities and is an integral part of culture.
Appreciating the organizes, Prof Hamal said that the University will play vital role in boosting the languages and the Department of Arabic is already working on it. He said that the language is the most important part of our being. “I think it is important to learn other languages besides our own because it helps us to learn about other people and cultures”, he said adding that the University will continue its efforts in this regard.
Giving details, organizing team head, Dr Ubaid-ur-Rehman, Associate Professor said that the workshop was sponsored by the University Grants Commission and it was organized in two sessions with Prof IA Hamal, Vice Chancellor and Prof. Ramnika Jalali, Head Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu presided over the sessions. Eminent Speakers Nazir Qureshi and MN Qureshi besides Registrar, BGSBU MR Choudhary, Principal College of Engineering Mohammad Asgar, Dr Shamas Kamal Anjum Head Department of Arabic, University faculty members and students were also present.
In the fist session, Prof. Ramnika Jalali, Head Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu presented detailed account on the importance of linguistics. She termed Sanskrit as one of the ancient language and also highlighted its importance in shaping other languages. Dr Shamas Kamal Anjum highlighted the importance of languages with special reference of Arabic and also highlighted its impact on other languages. Nazir Qureshi throws light on the subject with special reference to English language while MN Qureshi highlighted the importance of Urdu and Qari Manzor Usman highlighted the importance of linguistics in understanding Arabic.
Earlier Dr. Ubaid-ur-Rehman, Associate Professor welcomed the guests while Dr Azam compered the programme.
