By Ankur Vadhera CHANDIGARH“PRAKRITI” The Environment Society of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organized awareness campaign on safe and pollution free DIWALI on 6th November 2012.Following activities were organized during awareness campaign.Function started with the power point presentation on “Say No to Crackers” followed by an impressive Skit by Student members of the Society which highlighted the importance of Eco friendly Diwali with emphasis on noise pollution, air pollution, adulteration in sweets and their ill effects. Special invitees of the function were the Chief guest, Principal of the College Mrs. Achila Dogra, Dean Dr. Anita Kaushal, Vice Principal Dr. Binoo Dogra and the President of NGO Dr. Anuradha Sharma along with about 30 children of NGO- Hamari Kaksha. The Children of the NGO in age group of 5-15 years staged a play ‘Koshish Jari Hai’ depicting travails faced by common man. This was followed by a pledge by the faculty members and students to celebrate a safe and pollution free Diwali by not bursting crackers and thereby protecting the environment. They further pledged to spread this message to one and all.
Later in the awareness campaign about 200 students of the Societyand the NGO- Hamari Kaksha participated in the formation of Human chain followed by a rally in and outside the college campus. They were holdingcolorfulplacards with slogans like “POLLUTION FREE DIWALI BRINGS EVERYWHERE KHUSHALI” , “STOP BURNING CRACKERS: SAVE MONEY, EARTH AND ENVIRONMENT” , “SAY NO TO CRAKERS YES TO LIFE” etc.
The Anti Cracker Rally proved to be a source of inspiration to all the faculty members and students of the College.
