It was a nostalgic day for scores of alumni of SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana when they converged on the college grounds for the Alumni Meet of the college. The twinkle in their eyes on seeing their alma mater and on meeting their batchmates revealed the excitement and happiness in their hearts. Many of them had visited the college after a gap of more than a decade.
One of the eminent guests on this occasion was Mr. S.K. Goyal, Chairman, Central Board of Excise and Customs, and also a distinguished alumunus of the college. The function was presided over by Dr. Jaswinder Singh Brar, DPI (Colleges) Punjab, also an old student of the College. The Guest of Honour was Mr Vijay Verma, Deputy Commissioner, Central Excise and Customs, Ludhiana. Another distinguished alumunus who attended the function was S. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, PWD Minister, Punjab .
The function started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. This was followed by the presentation of the college report by the Principal, Mrs. Jasbir Kaur Makkar.. In her address to the audience she sa\id that it was indeed a moment of pride and happiness to see that the college had produced so many distinguished and illustrous students who had brought laurels to their alma mater in various fields. The meet was an effort o the part of the college authorities to provide a platform where the old students could share the old memories and discuss matters of social concern.
On this occasion, Life-time Achievement Awards was conferred upon Mr S.K. Goyal and Dr. Jaswinder Singh Brar and Excellence Award was given to Mr Vijay Verma. These awards were presented as a token of recognition and appreciation for their outstanding contribution to public service. Awards of Honour were also presented to other distinguished guests among whom was Mr.P C Wadhwa, Ex DGP(Haryana Cadre). Mr Wadhwa was a passout of 1951 Batch of M.Sc Maths , and had topped the Panjab University in Maths with 97% marks. An award for the topper in Maths has also been instituted in his name by the College. The highlight of the function was an hour long documentary on the life and works of Sahir Ludhianvi, another unforgettable alumnus of the college. The producer of this documentary Mr Rajesh Badal, Executive Director, Rajya Sabha Television had specially arrived from Delhi for the screening opf this film. A cultural programme was also presented on this occasion. The function ended with the vote of thanks by Dr Mukesh Arora, Dean, Alumni Relations.
