Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) welcomes the proposal by the Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) of including six public state universities in the Institutes of Eminence category. It correlates with the long-standing demand of ABVP to improve funding of public state universities, which forms the bedrocks for tertiary education in India with 40,000 colleges connected with such universities of affiliating structure.
ABVP acknowledges that similar demand for the inclusion of multi-disciplinary public universities as Institutes of Eminence on the basis of eligibility was made to the UGC by an ABVP delegation earlier this month. ABVP further proposes that UGC should support 100 state universities with next set of funding thereby hand holding such public state universities to organically raise their bar to compete with Institute of Eminence.
These universities should be granted sustained funding – in the next bracket – for 10 year period to excel in delivering quality education to the core of Indian academic domain. Shri Ashish Chauhan, ABVP National General Secretary welcoming the decision said, “UGC should accept proposal of including State Universities and Central Universities of multidisciplinary nature in Institute of Eminence category.”
