Chandigarh : The campus of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh bustled with high voltage energy and emotions as the three well-renowned Engineering Technology Institutes of North India, namely, University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), University Institute of Engineering and Technology Hoshiarpur (UIET Hoshiarpur) and University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET) held their 3rdConvocation together in PU here today with the vision to frame the future of the students of their respective institutes. The ceremony started on a positive note with the PU’s official prayer “Tamso Maa Jyotirgamaya, PU Vishwa Vidyalaya, Shaanaur Shakti Sadarahe.” The Degree Award Ceremony became more sensational as a Distinguished Professor of IIIT Hyderabad, Adjunct Professor at IIT Hyderabad as well as Honorary Advisor at TCS Limited, Prof. Kesav Vithal Nori was the Chief Guest of this auspicious occasion along with the Guest of Honour Director CFEES,DRDO, Dr. Chitra Rajagopal. Prof. Kesav Vithal Nori, is a proud alumnus of IIT Bombay (B.Tech) and IIT Kanpur (M.Tech) and has experience as a visiting scientist at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania while Dr. Chitra Rajagopal is well-experienced as a Director of the Center for Fire, Explosive and Environment Safety at DRDO. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover on this occasion said “I am feeling really happy for this third degree award ceremony of the three institutes. Years have passed very quickly. This year, the competition was high. If we don’t make our way it becomes difficult for us to move forward. The most important in a student’s life are trainings/internships since they finally help us sustain with good economy. I am glad you all have had those and help in making our university proud. I wish the students a very great success in their lives. Hope they touch great heights.” In his speech Prof. Kesav Vithal Nori gave humorous and motivating examples on how the world is changing rapidly now a day. He said, “Most of you are profound, interesting, humorous and worth remembering. Looks like you had a good initial foundation in your career but take care since the belief in your foundation will be tested again and again. An engineer without any practical experience is nothing. A practical engineer is better than a theoretical scientist. Every engineer becomes a manager at some point of life, so management is also important. My father said that world is a big test in disguise. I still remember that and I want to make to aware that life is always changing, not always constant. Just live your dream. All the best in your efforts, you have already made us proud, but you know, you can manage making us even more prouder.” While before that Dr. Chitra Rajagopal gave the adrenaline pump to the students with her speech. She said “Personally it is my homecoming. I was the only girl student in the whole class of 50. Really feeling happy, you all look like you have worked hard but Research is vital for the nation’s growth, said APJ Abdul Kalam, the former head of DRDO. I would like to convey the same to you too. You can obtain such experiences through trainings, internships and by attending various guest lectures. Robert Frost said to take the road that is less travelled. I want each one of you to ask a question to yourself as to what you want to do in life and follow your dream and work for it. All the best.” The Convocation ceremony amplifies the confidence of the students and they get the sense of accomplishment as their four years with books finally pay-off. Students, sitting together for four years, compete with each other for the highest CGPA. There are totally 320 students from UIET Chandigarh itself who attended. While the total students from UICET and UIET Hoshiarpur is totally 186 and 110 respectively. In all these three institutes, totally 600 students of PU got their degree from the hands of Chief Guest and Guest Of Honour. A large gathering which comprised of graduating students, guests from various industries as well the directors of UIET, UICET and UIET Hoshiarpur attended this grand ceremony. Upto 600 students attended and were awarded according to their grade-points. The students felt really moved by the motivational speeches from the Prof. Kesav and Dr.Chitra.
