Chandigarh : 35 students were honored for taking Punjabi language as their first subject in 9th class. On the auspicious occasion of Sri Guru Angad Dev ji birth anniversary, this is a small tribute to Guru ji who shaped Punjabi language and taught Punjabi to small children in 15th century in Sri Khadur Saheb, Punjab. 35 students were given 500 Rs scholarship for one year and they will be provided Punjabi books also. This is to promote and support non Punjabi students to take Punjabi as their first subject in 9th class so that their carrier will be shaped on the bases of Punjabi language . . Panditrao Dharennavar, assistant Professor, PG Govt College, Sector-46 Chandigarh , who is from Karnataka organized this. He said people hesitate to come to Dhanas but students in Dhanas love Punjabi language. It is interesting to know that out of 35 students, most of them are Non -Punjabis and Muslims also. It is noticed that most of the students give up Punjabi and opt for other subjects. so this effort is to make students to take Punjabi as their subject in 9th class. city beautiful Chandigarh needs to respect the local language, Punjabi and adopt Punjabi as one of the official language in Chandigarh Administration in true spirit.
