16 Oct ; The Two Chiefs agree to enhance level of mutual military cooperation in diverse fields General George William Casey Jr, the US Army Chief of Staff, on visit to India, was welcomed by General Deepak Kapoor, the Indian Chief of Army Staff today (16 Oct 08). The US General paid homage at the Amar Jawan Jyoti and after reviewing the traditional Guard of Honour in the South Block lawns, held extensive discussions with the Army Chief.
The two Chiefs took stock of the prevailing regional security situation, especially the developments in India’s neighbourhood. They reaffirmed the need to enhance mutual military-to-military cooperation, especially in the fields of exchange of military personnel for attending additional professional courses; cooperation and enhanced consultations in the field of doctrine development and raising the level of participation in joint military exercises.
The two Chiefs also agreed to cooperate in exchange of military and related technologies for development of enhanced capabilities for the future combat soldier (a programme of the Indian Army referred to as FINSAS – Future Infantry Soldier as a System).
General Deepak Kapoor is hosting a banquet for the visiting dignitary and members of his delegation in the Army Battle Honours Mess in the capital.
General Casey will be addressing the participants at the National Defence College (NDC) and will also be visiting Leh and Agra during his visit.
