17 Oct :Her Excellency, Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil, The President of India presented the “Standard” to 46 Armoured Regiment today amidst full military regalia in a magnificent mounted parade at Hisar Military Station. The ceremony was also graced by His Excellency Dr AR Kidwai, Governor of Haryana, Shri Bhupinder Singh Hoods, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana, Gen Deepak kapoor, Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen CKS Sabu, GOC-in-C, South Western Command and a number of senior Army Officers and civil dignitaries.
This rare honour has been bestowed upon 46 Armoured Regiment in due recognition of the dedicated and meritorious service rendered by the Unit since raising on 01 July 1982. The ‘THUNDERBOLTS’. 46 Armoured Regiment as informally referred, is a premier unit of the Indian Armoured Corps, which has participated in most operations undertaken by the Army. In the course of discharging its onerous duties, both in operations and in peace, the hardship and sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers of this ‘Young” Regiment has been duly recognized by the award of, one Shaurya Chakra, four Sena Medals, seven COAS Commendation Cards and ten GOC-in-C Commendation Cards, an achievement which is unparalleled amongst the units of its genre. The ceremony involved both foot and mounted parade in clock work precision and immaculate co-ordination, consistent with the highest traditions of the Army. The highlight of the momentous event was the awe inspiring mounted parade which saw 34 tanks rolling past the saluting dais in perfect unison. The parade was commended by Col Sanjay Bhatia, Commandant, 46 Armoured Regiment.
