Chandigarh:January 07, 2009 : During a solemn commissioning ceremony held at Command Hospital (WC) Chandimandir today nine probationer Nurses of the 40th Batch of School of Nursing, were commissioned in to the Military nursing service by Lt Gen T K Sapru, GOC-in –C Western command. All of them got commissioned in the rank of Lieutenants.
Maj Gen Shamsher singh, Commandant, Command Hospital (WC) welcomed the Chief Guest and other honorable dignitaries. Chief of Staff , western Command Lt Gen A N Aul, Maj Gen Charanjit singh MG(Med) Western Command and Brig J K Grewal ,DDMNS, HQ Western Command and the parents and relatives of the newly commissioned officers was present in the august audience .
Congratulating the newly commissioned nursing Officers who toiled hard to graduate today, Gen T K Sapru said, Nursing is a noble profession, which embodies the qualities of humanism & empathy providing selfless service in alleviating the sufferings of the wounded& sick soldiers. In this profession the element of service to humanity is very strong. He described the profession as a service totally dedicated to alleviate human pain and suffering. He further added that there can be no two options that compassionate and considerations are intrinsic gifts nurses must have. He also elucidated some personality traits that are essential in this noble profession.
Gen Sapru took this opportunity to also congratulate the parents of these young officers , faculty of Command Hospital, Chandimandir for making the dreams of these young ladies to come true.
Presenting the school report ,Lt col S P Pradhan , Principal Tutor highlighted that the ultimate aim of training at this institution is to impart a blend of scientific knowledge , technical competence , basic ethical standards & above all inculcation of an attitude of compassion ,empathy & selfless devotion.
This school of nursing was established in the year 1961 at MH Jallandhar Cantt & was shifted to its present location at Chandimandir in the year 1991. So far 763 students of this school have been granted commission & are currently serving in various Hospitals of the Armed Forces. The school offers a three year course in General Nursing / midwifery, following the syllabus & regulations laid down by the Indian Nursing Council.
The ever increasing demands of the clientele & advanced medical technology have made the nursing profession more exciting. The Younger generation of nurses needs to be well prepared and adequately geared up to meet the new dimension of health care and newer challenges that they will face in future. This is even more so of the military nursing service as they have to be prepared to meet the demands of the armed forces both in war & peace . The Military Nursing Services will continue to play a vital role in the health care services of the armed forces whose motto is ‘ service with smile ‘.
