29 Nov : As the operation to flush out terrorists in Mumbai got over, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with the chiefs of defence services and intelligence agencies to discuss the unprecedented attacks and ways to prevent such recurrences.
Singh called the meeting to review the security situation in view of the attacks for which the terrorists had apparently come via the sea.
Defence Secretary Vijay Singh, Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, Naval Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta, Air Force Chief Air Marshal Homi Major, Coast Guard Director General Admiral R F Contractor and Intelligence Bureau Chief P C Haldar were also present at the meeting.
Prime Minister has also convened an all-party meeting tomorrow to take stock of the internal security scenario in the country. The meeting will be held at 7, Race Course Road at 1800 hours, informed sources said.
Opposition Leader L K Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi have openly demanded such a meeting for a threadbare discussion on the ways of dealing with terror especially eminating from Pakistan.
Dr Singh, during his talks with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, had sought Inter-Services Intelligence Chief’s presence to help with the investigations of the attacks.
However, the neighbouring country will send an ISI representative, not its director, Pakistan prime minister’s office said on Saturday.
