Jammu, 06 August 2008 :In 1998, the Indian Army launched a unique operation called Operation SADBHAVANA (Goodwill) to win the hearts and minds of the population long ravaged by terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Through Operation SADBHAVANA, troops of Northern Command extended their mandate and made concerted attempts to apply the healing touch to win over the people by promoting development activities focusing on their basic needs. Operation SADBHAVANA and activities of the State administration were amalgamated harmoniously to generate synergy, with a clear focus to bring a palpable improvement in the quality of life of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Leh and Ladakh Region
(a) Construction of bridge at Shasthang – Rs 40 lacs.
(b) Construction of bridge at Changspa – Rs 36 lacs.
(c) Sewer clearing & suction machine at Choglamsar – Rs 25 lacs.
(d) Sewer clearing & suction machine at Leh – 25 lacs.
(e) Provision of Dental Van for Medical Aid Camp at Leh – Rs 40 lacs.
(f) Construction of co-education centre at Chushot – Rs 40 lacs.
(g) Construction of hostel for Asha children at Chushot – Rs 40 lacs.
Srinagar Valley Region
(a) Construction of stadium at Bandipur – Rs 85 lacs.
(b) Construction of stadium at Ganderbal – Rs 85 lacs.
(c) Construction of four additional class rooms at Hajan – Rs 27 lacs.
(d) Construction of stadium at Badgam – Rs 60 lacs.
(e) Construction of stadium at Shupiyan – Rs 85 lacs.
(f) Construction of stadium at Kulgam – Rs 85 lacs.
(g) Construction of double storey building fashion designing institute (Vocation Training Centre) at Kulgam – Rs 40 lacs.
(h) Construction of Community Development Centre at Saidpura – Rs 40 lacs.
(j) Construction of 8 x class rooms for Army Goodwill School (AGS) at Aishmagam – Rs 35 lacs.
(k) Central heating system at Army Goodwill Public School (AGPS) Pahalgam – Rs 98 lacs.
Jammu Region
(a) Construction of Orphans Hostel at Kishtwar – Rs 25 lacs.
(b) Construction of Primary Health Centre at Talwara – Rs 25 lacs.
The underlying theme of Operation SADBHAVNA has been to ‘help the people of Jammu and Kashmir to help themselves’. The projects undertaken under Operation SADBHAVANA have yielded enormous dividends and the people have understood the benefits of development, peace and tranquility and the follies of terrorism. With infrastructural developments taking place alongside improvement in health care and facilities for children education, the people of the State have started helping the Army and Civil Administration in their efforts towards defeating terrorism.
