Chandigarh: Sep 10, 2008 : NCC Group Headquarters, Chandigarh organised Cancer Awareness Workshop jointly with Sahayta Charitable Welfare Society an NGO based at Chandigarh at the Auditorium of CCET, Sector-26, Chandigarh today.
over 500 cadets from all the three wings of NCC ie Army , Air Force and Naval wing attended the workshop. The aim of the workshop was to spread the message that diagnosis of cancer is not the end of life. One can lead a happy healthy life if people become aware of this dreaded disease.
NCC is a grass root organization and is well organized to spread the awareness that cancer can be cured and people can live happily even if they have been diagnosed with cancer. Col M S Chauhan, Group Commander, NCC Group Chandigarh addressed the cadets and said that ‘Prevention is better than cure’. We must lead a happy life style so as to avoid getting this disease. Smoking, drugs, alcohol consumption, Gutka etc are the major causes of cancer and our society must avoid this. Col Vikram Datta, Commanding Officer, 2 Chandigarh Battalion NCC welcomed the Guest Speakers of NGO Sahayta Mrs. Renu Saigal, Ms Sharda Ahuja, Dr. Virender Kappal and Mr. Raj Gupta who also addressed the cadets and gave presentation on cancer awareness. The literature on cancer was also distributed amongst the cadets.
The girl cadets of the NCC were given separate talk on cancer awareness and were made aware of cancer prevention related to the ladies. The cadets who participated in the workshop will be awarded special certificates.
