Chandigarh: 04 June 2012 : The 10 day camp for NCC Cadets from Naval Unit of Chandigarh that commenced from 25 May 2012 at Govt Model Senior Secondary School at Sector 23 in Chandigarh concluded yesterday. About 350 personnel from Naval Unit of NCC Chandigarh participated in this Annual Training Camp. A total of 317 Cadets including 68 Girl cadets from Six Schools of the city participated in this camp whose charge was under the leadership of Capt GM Singh of Indian Navy.
The cadets were given training in various subjects related to Indian Navy, Defence Forces and NCC. These included Seamanship training, Rigging, Parade Drill, Semaphore, Shooting, Health and Hygiene etc. They also followed a strict routine starting from Physical Training and Yoga early in the morning and continuing the training throughout the day daily. The cadets participated in many competitions that included service subjects and games etc. They were exposed to Naval training in which they visited Sukhna Lake and learnt about boat pulling, Kayaking, wind surfing and sailing etc. The Camp Commandant, Captain GM Singh told that the Cadets are prepared to become good citizens and future leaders of our country. They are taught good practices which would help them in taking balanced decisions besides making them confident to face any eventuality bravely with utmost care and wisdom. The cadets were full of enthusiasm and willingly participated in all activities.
Brigadier Satish Kumar, the Group Commander of NCC Group of Chandigarh was the Chief Guest who gave away the prizes to the winners of various competitions. Cadet Jasmine Mann amongst girl cadets and Cadet Jaskirat among Boy cadets both of Guru Nanak Public School (GNPS), Sector 36 were awarded Best Cadet Prizes in respective categories. Although all schools performed in exemplary manner but Govt High School of Daria was adjudged as Best disciplined institution amongst Boys and Govt Model Senior Sec School, Sector 23 amongst the Girls. GNPS of Sec 36 amongst Girls and GH School of Daria amongst Boys were declared Winners in Drill competition and Line Area Competitions. Cadets Anamika Sharma and Cadet Eena Thakur both from GNPS, Sec 36 won Gold medals in Semaphore (Naval communication) securing 96% marks each. Congratulating the winners, Brig Satish Kumar told all others that it is important to participate in the events with full commitment and honesty. The Camp fire was lit up by Brig Satish Kumar alongwith Capt (Indian Navy) G M Singh, the Camp Commandant.
