29 Sep : Sujjan Vihar is a Army Welfare Housing Organization, residential colony in Gurgaon, named after late Subedar Sujjan Singh, who was awarded the Ashok Chakra posthumously, Sub Sujjan Singh laid down his life on the night of September 26-27, 1994, during a counter insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir, living up to the traditions of his brave battalion and the Indian Army, to commemorate the sacrifice, the residents as well as the management committee of Sujjan Vihar Welfare Management Society installed a bust of late Subedar Sujjan Singh, Ashok Chakra.
On this week end, serving and retired officers and Jawans hold a solemn ceremony to consecrate a bust of the intrepid JCO who belonged to the famous 13th Battalion of Kumaon Regiment, Among those present were Lieutenant General Avadesh Prakash, Colonel of the Kumaon Regiment, Major General KJS Oberoi, and Lieutenant General Sudhir Sharma who retired recently as the Quartermaster General of the Army. Also present were Smt Kaushalya and Shri Jogender Singh, the wife and son respectively of the late JCO, who were specially invited for the occasion.
The event was simple conducted with exemplary military precision, decorum and sobriety. The event commenced with sanctifying the pedestal and the bust among chanting of vedic mantra. On a sentimental note two minute silence was observed marked by soul stirring bugle calls. The pipes and drums of 13 Kumaon Battalion added to the military pageantry by their martial music. In a touching gesture marking the end of the event, the wife and son of Late Subedar Sujjan Singh were honoured by the management committee of Sujjan Vihar
