New Delhi, 13 Apr : The Special Judge for CBI cases, Chandigarh has convicted the former Chief Engineer-cum Secretary (Engineering ) Shri K.K. Jaerath, for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs.57 lakhs. He has been sentenced to undergo simple imprisonment of three years and fine of Rs.50,000/-. In addition, his disproportionate assets worth about Rs.57 lakhs, namely Gold Jewellery, Bank Balances, FDRs which had been seized by the CBI during the investigation and a 500 sq. meter plot in sector 4 Panchkula have also been ordered for confiscation to the state as per the judgement.
The CBI had registered a case of disproportionate assets against Shri Jaerath on 09.01.98. The said assets were acquired by him during the period from 01.01.91 to 15.01.98. After the investigation, a chargesheet was filed against him on 02.07.2001. The court found the accused guilty and convicted him.
