19 Mar : CRPF has suspended one Assistant commandant and three jawans on Thursday holding them responsible in a case of mistaken identity and for opening fire on a civilian suspected to be a militant.
The incident happened on on Wednesday evening when suspecting militant CRPF personnel shot Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik (32), a carpenter by profession, at his home in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.
This sparked massive street protests by local residents. Malik’s family members allege that para military personnel entered the house of Malik on noticing movement in the upper storey.
However, CRPF spokesman P Tripathy said a platoon of CRPF went to the village following information that two militants were hiding there.Meanwhile, Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda said that a murder case was registered against a CRPF man whose custody has been sought by the police from his unit.
