New Delhi, 17 : The Special Judge, CBI Cases, Tis Hazari Courts, Delhi has convicted Shri Jag Pravesh Chandra Kaushal, former Assistant Commissioner of Police, Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi and sentenced him to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment for three years in disproportionate assets case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000/- and further on failing to pay the fine to undergo additional simple imprisonment for 6 months. The Court ordered confiscation of the disproportionate assets equivalent to Rs.32,39,812/- accumulated by the accused in the form of graft.
On the basis of searches conducted by CBI at the residential premises of Shri J.P. Kaushal, Cash to the tune of Rs. 27,15,400/- and various documents were recovered which revealed other movable and immovable assets. These assets were substantially disproportionate to his known sources of income and hence a case of possessing disproportionate assets under the Prevention of Corruption Act., 1988 was registered against him on 26.03.1997.
CBI completed its investigation in a little over a year and established that the accused had acquired disproportionate assets to the extent of Rs. 33,51,156/-. The charge sheet was filed by CBI on 06.06.1998.
