12 June : Consequent to the water level receding at the flood affected areas as also the clearance from the West Bengal Government, sixteen medical teams, two Army Columns and the Naval Diving Teams engaged in relief work in ‘Aila’ affected areas have been de-requisitioned from their active duty, today.
Indian Army under ‘Operation Sahayata’ had pressed into service two Army columns, one engineering Task Force and 16 Medical Teams in the ‘Aila’ hit four districts of South West Bengal. So far these teams have provided medical aid to 11,000 persons, which include children and pregnant women. Besides these, 3,500 kg of food materials were distributed by the Army Columns among the affected population of the 24 parganas district during this operation. Army had established two administrative bases in the general area of Basanti and Hingai Gunj to provide appropriate logistical facilities to the 16 dedicated medical teams.
