The Air Force Naval Housing Board (AFNHB) Greater Mohali Project Jal Vayu Vihar was inaugurated by Air Marshal J N Burma, Air Officer in Charge Administration, Indian Air Force and Chairman Air Force Naval Housing Board yesterday. He was accompanied by Director General, AFNHB Rear Admiral R Gaikwad NM. The function was attended by approx. 350 allottees.
Shri Pallam Raju, Minister of State for Defence was slated to attend and inaugurate the project but could not attend the function due to pressing official engagements. In his message read out to the allottees, he said Air Force Naval Housing Board being a welfare organization, is doing a yeoman service in providing self financed, affordable housing to the serving and retired Air Force and Naval personnel and their widows on ‘No Profit’ basis.
The Air Force Naval Housing Board, Greater Mohali project is one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by AFNHB in terms of its size and the facilities provided.
The foundation stone of the project was laid on 08 Mar 2008 and work commenced on 19 Mar 08. This project is a land mark project as it has 1292 DUs for officers and airman & sailors, in 26 towers of 14 stories each.
Inaugurating the project the Air Marshal emphasized on the aspect that AFNHB should not rest of its laurels till the larger goal of providing affordable units to each and every aspiring Air Force and Naval personnel is achieved. He also urged AFNHB to pursue cases with state governments for procurement of Government land for building affordable houses.
