A contingent of smartly turned out NCC cadets drawn from all the three wings namely Army, Navy and Air Force, presented a guard of honour to Maj Gen PS Mander, Additional Director General (ADG) of NCC Directorate Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh & Chandigarh on his arrival at NCC Pre Republic Day Camp at NCC Academy Ropar. ADG inspected and reviewed the drill and guard of honour, went around the Academy and he was briefed about flag area. The theme for Flag Area is “ Role of Youth in Nation Building”. Aero and ship modeling display were also organised on the occasion.
As many as 162 Cadets, including 36 girls drawn from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh & Union Territory of Chandigarh are participating in this Camp. This includes 45 cadets for band from Sainik School Kapurthala and 10 cadets from Remount & Vetinary. The cadets will take part in a number of activities like Drill, Firing, Cultural, National Integration Awareness and Institutional Training Competitions.
The select lot of cadets after undergoing intense training for nearly two months are ready to proceed to Delhi to participate in the Republic Day 2013 at Delhi. The cadets are fully motivated and are keenly awaiting to show case the best from the region at Delhi in the month long camp.
In his brief address, Maj Gen PS Mander, ADG NCC Directorate Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh & Chandigarh said that the cadets hailing from different parts of the region with different linguistic and diverse background, represent the region as a single contingent. He added that the rigorous discipline the NCC cadets are put through is very useful training of both the body and the mind. The ADG was confident that NCC cadets would rise and give their best for the success of the contingent. The ADG also exhorted all cadets to keep themselves protected while working in the cold conditions prevalent in the region. Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar Sh. Pradeep Kumar Agrawal was a Guest of honour at the cultural programme organised on the occasion. Two new NCC Academies were opened in Punjab one each at Malout and Ropar to promote NCC activities in the region. NCC Academy Malout is for girls while NCC Academy Ropar is for boys.
