Amrita Gill,Mumbai : Summer is the time of the year when we start reaching for the diet sodas, leomandes, ice cubes etc.As its hot here in Mumbai, to stay cool our body needs to adapt a proper diet and suitable clothes . Nutrionists’ recommend that during summers we should take high carbohydrate,moderate proteins and low fat.And should take lots of fruits and liquids for minerals ,vitamins.Most importantly should keep ourselves well hydrated.
To keep our body cool eating lots of curd, drinking coconut water and sugarcane juice during summer is recommended. Intestinal infections like cholera, typhoid, amoebiasis are more prominent during summers. Eating curd helps in increasing the friendly bacteria in the stomach and boost immunity. Curd can be taken in any form yoghurt, lassi, chaaj, etc.Due to excessive sweating body losses minerals and electrolytes which makes us feel tired and lazy.Cocunut water is packed with simple sugars,electrolytes,and minerals that replenish hydration levels. Sugarcane juice is very handy for those who exercise during summers.Containing only natural sugars it not only cools the body but also provides instant energy .
Veggie delights for the summer are dhoodhi, parwhal and pumpkin as they are rich in fibre, water and easy to digest. The other water rich vegetables that can be added to our diet are carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach and mushrooms. For meat lovers fish meat should be more preferable to chicken.
Nutritionist Nanina suggests eating musk melons, watermelons,cucumbers,lettuce ,ice berg and bell peppers in our diet during summers helps in preventing urine from being acidic.
Also she adds having raw mango in any form prevents sunstrokes and summer typhoid. Butter milk and lemon juice are other couple of drinks which helps body to cool and keep up immunity
As the diet changes with rise in temperature wardrobes also get changed .The scorching heat can damage our skin, hair and body. So it is important to dress right for the summers.
