By Akhil Bansal : We celebrate our birthdays, we celebrate events like New Year and our festivals with fervor….all of them attached with specific dates on either English, desi or some other calendar. These dates are symbols, but we humans are exceptionally well at using these symbols to ‘justify’ ones’, communities’ or a states’ importance and infusing them with celebration and feelings to bring people close to historical and personal facts. We celebrate these occasions multiple times in our life, but now we have got an occasion which transcends just an individuals’, communities’ or a nation’s importance and which most of us can ‘experience’, just once in our lifetime, in fact ‘lucky’ we are to witness it, since dates like these have a period underlying them corresponding to the geological time scale, not human timescale. Yes, I am talking about the Doomsday my friends, ‘the’ 21.12.12.
Mayan predicted an apocalypse, don’t know whether the end of earth or humanity or what, a last standing place called Bugarach and many other ‘ancillary’ phenomenon speculated on the speculation of this apocalypse. Well, neither I am going to Bugarach to be the, don’t know lucky or unlucky one, to witness the destruction, neither I am wary of what is going to happen, nor I know the veracity of Mayans in prediction. But I just know this, that if Mayans are ‘1’, we have got ‘nothing to lose’ and if they are ‘0’, which I feel they are, since the probability of hitting of such an apocalypse is even less than the probability of Anonymous hitting a government website in some part of world ,even backed by two words ‘Expect us’, in this case, we should be grateful to Mayans that they gave us a ‘great symbolic date’, which we can put to ‘use’ by celebrating it. So, in the latter scenario, I am inviting my friends for a bash, visualising a cellar where we are striking our beer steins with the enchant of Cheers Doomsday!
