Dr. Avnish Jolly,27 May:Chandigarh – Laadli won the UNFPA-Laadli National Media Award 2007 for best gender-sensitive reporting in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) goodwill ambassador Lara Dutta Population Firsta’s executive trustee S.V. Sista and programme director Dr A.L. Sharada, Laadlia’s spokesperson Suneeta Rao and country representative, UNFPA, Nesim Tumkaya.
Launched in March 2007 by Population First, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has lent support to take Laadli Media Awards pan-India. The awards were part of the media advocacy efforts of the Laadli campaign by Population First, an NGO working on health, population and gender issues.
It is a matter of proud for Chandigarh that it’s Laadli who is a voice and strength of common people has got this award. Her writing on social issues and skills in utilizing advocacy tools has had impressed professional social workers and concerned people who care for Human Rights and Rights based Development.
Ms. Veena Sharma of Human Rights law Network expressed that it is always very easy for people to interact with Aditi and she knows the art of translating the feelings of deprived section of the society in to words.
Pooja Thakur, President, Chandigarh Network of Positive People shared she was the person who wrote about her first and gave voice to the HIV positive people in City Beautiful. During interaction she emotionally remembered her and felt that who will guide her for Advocacy of Rights of People Living with HIV. My all interaction with her was learning experience.
Aditi usually visits Recreational Center for Slum Children under the aegis of Theater Age an NGO working for sustainable development of slum Children in Chandigarh. Zulfiqar Khan, Director shared that she is regular donor to the school and built the moral of the students on their achievements through her articles time to time which helps to involve the slum children in creative activities regularly.
Sr Namarta, Coordinator, Domestic Workers Movement said due to media advocacy on the living condition of Domestic Workers in Chandigarh by her we are in position to work for them for implementing labor law systems and benefits.
Umesh Jai Prakash Baurai, State Representative of FXB India Suraksha said that she is the only Journalist who uses correct terminology for explaining issues on HIV/ AIDS and she could be said as pioneer of Journo Social Work (as per Umesh when social worker inspires, learn and implement its activities after going through reporting of Journalists).
Aditi bring forth the readers other side of the City Beautiful representing vulnerable and marginalized section. We all appreciate that the coveted award is received by the deserved person.
