Dr. Karan Singh Vinayak, Chandigarh : After unnecessary delaying the matter for a long period,Chandigarh Administration has now at least paid heed to concerns of citizens by introducing a critical reform in the government sector of Chandigarh. Higher officials have given a go ahead to implemented Right to Service,RTS Act in various departments such as DC Office, MC Office, Estate office and Chandigarh Housing Board with respect to many contentious services directly affecting the public.
This was a highly imminentand necessarily required step pending since many years. This step is however, appreciable and praiseworthy. It will provide respite and relief to many sufferers facing the indifference due to unjustified as well as illegitimate delay to process and decide the urgent and important cases by the authorities. It is essential to make the dealing officials and authorities being held accountable if the dereliction, laxity and inefficiency may trouble the gullible citizens.
Public sentiment must be adhered to at any cost. Functioning of many other government departments and public officials such as Director Higher Education (DHE), Chandigarh, Police department, etc. is also under scanner due to dereliction of duty, biased approach, pick and chose policy when dealing with critical issues. To enhance efficiency, avoid unwarranted and arbitrary actions, working of departments ought to be governed by the provisions of RTS Act. It is a well known fact that many critical files of increments, past service benefits, promotions seeking urgent actionare facing ignorance and agony.
Citing huge and ever increasing pile up of pending cases in the public offices leading to huge harassment and victimization of public,RTS Act must be implemented in true spirit and sense. All the essential and crucial files, cases must be dealth with utmost care, urgency and professional manner. Stringent and strict norms will deter the public servant to attend and provide requisite service to the citizens.
