Anubhav Chopra,14 Nov : It has been a topic of debate for a long that whether astrology is a science or a myth. Based on my personal experience, I shall try to give some facts relating to astrology and routine events of our life.
All the modern sciences including engineering, medicine, information technology etc. are based certain facts and figures, whereas, our classical astrological literature and even modern developments in this field do not have mathematical expressions with complete derivation or formulae, which has labeled astrology as pseudo science or a myth. It may be noted that historical literature on astrology has provided us the empirical methods of findings out different planetary positions in the zodiac, which are in line with modern astronomical calculations. It is because of this reason, in some modern magazines as astrology different planetary positions or ephemeris are based on the data provided by ‘Educational Science Corporation of America’.
Various classical seers have given us effects of different planetary combinations in terms of dictum (strotas) instead of mathematical derivations. These dicta if used in practice diligently are found to be highly accurate in predicting day-to-day events of life. There are number of granths (books) on vedic astrology viz. Uttarkalamrita, phaldeepika, mansagari, saravali, bhavarth ratnakar etc. whose principles are tremendously helpful in making accurate predictions. I must say that astrology is rather a practical science which can help us in decision making of important events of our life like choosing an appropriate carrier, matrimonial prospects, birth of progeny and even in the medical field.
In astrology there are twelve signs of zodiac and nine planets including two shadowy planets Rahu & Ketu. When we talk of astrology as career prospects, all sign of zodiac & planets signify different fields relating to business or profession. For example, mars being a fiery planet by nature indicate a career requiring physical strength, like sports, police and defence etc. Since it also indicates blood also,it can denote a career in surgery depending on other planetary combinations. Similarly, Venus being a planet of love and glamour denotes a career in entertainment & show business like modeling and films. A strong Venus is very important for a successful career in films and modeling. All the cine celebrities have a very strong Venus in their horoscopes and is related to the house of profession in one or the other way along with the other planetary combinations. Mercury, being planet of intellect and communication may give a career in journalism and other communication media, if strong and well placed in a horoscope.
Similarly, when we talk of medical astrology nine planets and all the signs of zodiac signify different parts of human body. As already discussed, mars is a significator of blood, an afflicted mars in a horoscope denotes accidents, injuries, surgery etc. The affected part of body is denoted by the house and the zodiac sign, for example, first house and first sign arise of zodiac represent head, therefore an afflicted mars in first house or aspecting first house may give a head injury.
Similarly, a bad or an afflicted mercury along with the combination of afflicted moon (a planet governing emotions) may give psychiatric problems and disease like epilepsy. Now, same moon, if badly placed in a house and sign governing chest and is afflicted by malefic like Rahu or Saturn may give disease like asthma and bronchitis.
There are many qualified doctors and surgeons who have contributed to the science by taking accurate birth data of their patients and have come forward with their research papers showing diagnosis of diseases on the basis of astrological principles.
Lastly, I would say that there is a lot of scope of research on the subject in a scientific and logical manner. Scientists, researches, and doctors should come forward on a common platform to promote and contribute to this divine science as per changing time.
