My Dear Students
Today I am just communicating to you all through this open letter when you are ready to go for the polls in this prestigious institution. This premier institute has made names across the globe and pan India too. It has produced one of finest educationists and political leaders who have achieved the highest success in their respective fields.
This institute has produced student leaders like me also who were not having any political background and belonged to normal family but still managed to play active role in the student politics of the Punjab University for so many years. Today with the blessings of the All India Congress I am sitting legislature from Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and Secretary of the highest body this party called the AICC. The congress party gave due recognition to the student leaders like me and brought me in the mainstream politics. This is the vision of our youth leader Sh. Rahul Gandhi. I feel proud that I started my Students politics from the Punjab University.
Today again the elections are round the corner in this premier institute. I request you to please not go along with those who are just playing with the lives of our youth. Student organizations like SOI who have the political backing of S Sukhbir Singh Badal and S Bikram Singh Majithia are using Money, Power and Muscle power to intimidate the students. The Badals have ruined the youth of Punjab for their vested interests. Unemployment, Drugs and crime are on the rise in the state of Punjab under political patronage. The Badals have complete control over the Sand mafia, Cable mafia, Liquor Mafia, Transport mafia, Entertainment mafia in the state. The black money collected from these trades is being used to campaign by the student organizations like SOI. Why the Badals did not have democratic student elections in the state for the last eight years? Will the badals tell the youth of Punjab where is the unemployment allowance of Rs 1000 per month which was to be given to the unemployed youth of Punjab as promised in their election manifesto? Where is the promise of giving 10 lac new jobs to the youth? What happened to the laptops or the tabloids to be given to the students of class 11th and 12th. The Badals want to ruin the prestige of this premier institute also by directly interfering in the student elections.
I appeal to my dear students to stand against the activities of the student outfits like SOI and vote according to their conscious other wise the reputation of this premier institute will be in danger and we will be responsible for it.
S Kuljit Singh Nagra
MLA, Sri Fathegarh Sahib
Former Student Leader, Punjab University
