By Roohi Gupta, Punjab :- India is a country where an unmarried girl looked upon as “ Kanjak “ and the married girl as “ Ghar ki Lakshmi “ rather than the object of sex or lust. No auspicious ceremony is supposed to be performed without her presence. But today in this country, the practice of female feticide is performed by people. “Female feticide, the female children in the wombs of expecting mothers, they are not only denied the right to live but are robbed to their right to be born “. The Pre-Natal Diagnostic Act, 1994 states that the determination of the sex of an unborn child is illegal. The government has set punishments for the doctors, the motivator and the woman. In spite of all these measures, the sex ratio of females is decreasing with every passing decade. The national ratio has come down from 945 females to 1000 males in 1991 to 927 females to 1000 males in 2001.In Punjab it has fallen from 882 in the year 1991 to 875 in the year 2001.Punjab itself is having the lowest female sex ratio More than 50,000 cases are said to have been reported in Punjab in recent years. Most of us think that the people who lack of proper education or training, they commit this crime but we are wrong. An educated people are also doing this crime. Some people feel that the rich families can only afford the daughters. We must analyze the factors responsible for this sin. The well known factors are dowry system, financial dependence of women, lack of decision making power etc. But the most important factor is the woman itself. After the marriage of her son, she begins to torture the newly wed girl. She always forces her daughter-in-law to give a birth to male child. She fears that if she would have grand daughter, she might loose her respect in the society.
Why She behaves like typical “ SAAS” instead of being a mother ?Who give us the right to kill the innocent baby who haven’t seen the colors of life yet? If the parents keep on killing their babies then we don’t need to be afraid of murders or killers because we are already staying with them under the same roof. We have never noticed one thing that on the one hand people are worshipping DEVI, SHERAWALI MATA, etc. on other hand they are killing the infant ‘Mata’ before she is born. Here I am sharing my own experience. Last Sunday, I went to hospital to meet my friend, Sanchita. She gave a birth to a baby girl. I was so happy for her. There I noticed disappointment on her in law’s faces.
They did neither celebration nor the distribution of sweets to the nurses. They considered her as a burden on them. I was so shocked after hearing all this”. I want to ask one thing to my fellow citizens that why we think that only male child can bring status to our family? Why don’t we have guts to change all this? Why don’t we understand that female feticides are curse? Why do we lack of courage to face the society and tell to the society proudly,” I shall not kill my baby girl. She is my pride too. We can afford daughter. “
Its a nice written fact about the Indian society and we can call it a curse to our society.. Still people think this rubbish…in my eyes..if any one caught doing all dis should be punished heavily..
