By Parag : 24 Feb : India is the second most densely populated country in the world. Mumbai city being its finance hub attracts people not only from India but also from other parts of the world. It is very important for development of any city to be interconnected by some mode of transport. The Railway is the life line of Mumbai. There are about 5, 54,534 lakhs of people who daily commute by trains and this number is increasing rapidly.
As the population in the city increases, the numbers of commuters increases. The recent statistics of Western Railways declared the number of tickets sales in the city of Mumbai. The shoot up of 35% was seen in ticket selling at Nallasopara and Vasai- Virarand other areas were only 5%. The commuters while boarding the train sometimes lose their balance and face major accidents which are fatal too. The number of death was approx 300 people died on tracks.
While travelling through trains one comes across variety of people. Every person who travels through trains has a distinct character and attitude towards life. Some people have a happy go lucky attitude, some are worried about their present or their future, some are happy, some look sad, some are cool while some are short tempered.
Everyday there are lot of people who travel through same train which leads to formation of groups. Some groups love singing bhajans or devotional songs in the train, some like to play cards while some keep chatting with their group mates. It is very interesting to listen to their chat topics as they discuss various things like politics, current issues, their problems and experiences, etc. The bonding between them becomes strong as they spend a lot of time traveling together in the train.
There is one bad thing about groups that they never care for anyone else than their group members. Sometimes they behave very rudely with others and if a person who seldom travels gets in the train, they make fun of him. They don’t even have the humanity to offer their seat to elderly people.
I have observed that people who travel through trains have great respect of time. One funny thing that I have noticed about them is that they always have the entire railway timetable fixed in their minds. Traveling through local trains is a memorable experience. We learn different aspects of life by observing different type of people in the trains. I suggest you all to have such wonderful experiences at least once in life- this was for those who hardly travel by trains while those who travel daily should cherish such memories and learn from their experiences.
