Mr. Jacques Diouf, the Director General of United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization called on Prof.Saifuddin Soz, the Union Water Resources Minister here today.Prof. Soz and Director General of FAO discussed a number of issues including international food security, climate change, availability of water resources, irrigation and storage capacity etc. Prof. Soz informed Mr. Diouf of what was being done in India in this behalf. He said India was doing whatever it could to counter the effects of climate change of different aspect of our life.
Prof. Soz informed Mr. Diouf that climate change was an issue which no longer could be dealt with by a single Ministry or organization as its reach was wide and far reaching. For this purpose, the Prime Minister has set up a high powered Climate Change Council to devise and coordinate measures in this regard including reducing emissions and promoting a clean development mechanism.
Prof. Soz shared the concern of the Director General of FAO regarding food security in the World and apprised him of the measures being taken in India in this regard.
