6 Nov : Theatrical revenue at Paramount Pictures reportedly fell more than a third during third-quarter when its comedy “The Love Guru” bombed and the Hindus are claiming that their worldwide boycott call caused it.
Reacting to its parent Viacom’s Monday announcement about the substantial fall in profits, acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed said that the worldwide boycott call of Hindus against “The Love Guru” for lampooning Hinduism had been very effective, contributing to its blunt failure at the box office.
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism and who spearheaded the protest movement against “The Love Guru” starting in March and issued the boycott call after seeing the movie on its release in USA and Canada on June 20, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that although various issues contributed to the failure of this movie, but the boycott was one of the major factors because many Hindus and other people of faith shunned the movie.
Rajan Zed thanked the world filmgoers for having a feel for the pain of Hindu brothers-sisters by rebuffing “The Love Guru”. Various Hindu, Catholic, Presbyterian, Jewish, Native American, Methodist, Buddhist, youth, film, spiritual/religious, music, yoga, civil rights, etc., leaders issued statements in support of this cause espoused by Zed.
Religion must be taken seriously and businesses should give due respect to the feelings of devotees of various faiths, Zed argued.
While “The Love Guru” has been released world over, it is reportedly yet to be submitted for certification in India and there are no apparent signs of its theatrical release there, although it is based on various Indian themes.
Great content! Keep up the good work!
