Sachin becomes IAF’s honorary Group Captain

3 Sep ; Senior Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar was on Friday conferred with the Indian Air Force’s honorary rank of Group Captain to honour his cricketing achievements and contribution to the nation.
Tendulkar is the first sportsperson to be conferred a rank by IAF and the first personality with no aviation background to receive the honour.

In 2008, India’s World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev had received the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Army.

Noted journalist Prabhash Joshi dies

6 Nov : Noted journalist Prabhash Joshi died of a heart attack in New Delhi last night. He was 72. He was admitted to a private hospital after he complained of chest pain at 11.30 pm where doctors declared him dead, family sources said.
He is survived by wife Usha Joshi, two sons — Sandeep and Sopan — daughter Sonal and mother Leela Bai.Joshi, who began his career with Nayi Duniya, was the founder editor of leading Hindi daily “Jansatta” in 1983.

12 Sep : India became the number one team in the ICC ODI Rankings with 128 points after defeating New Zealand by 6 wickets in the ongoing tri-series at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Friday.
