Prez arrives in China; India, China vow to use visit to deepen ties

26 May : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on Wednesday arrived in Beijing to a red carpet welcome as the first Indian Head of the State to visit China in a decade for visit during which she will meet the top Chinese leadership and sign a number of agreements.
Patil, who arrived at the Beijing International Airport, was warmly welcomed by Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue and Indian Ambassador to China S Jaishankar.

Vertical-launch version of BrahMos test-fired successfully

21 Mar : India on Sunday became the first country to have a ‘manoeuvrable’ supersonic cruise missile when it successfully test-fired the vertical-launch version of 290-km range BrahMos from a warship in the Bay of Bengal off the Orissa coast.
“The vertical-launch version of missile was launched at 1130 hours today from Indian Navy ship INS Ranvir and it manoeuvred successfully hitting the target ship. It was a perfect hit and a perfect mission,” BrahMos aerospace chief A Sivathanu Pillai told the news agency.
