30 elected unopposed to RS

10 June :  The Bahujan Samaj Party and the Congress bagged seven seats each as Union Minister Ambika Soni, BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Satish Sharma and journalist Chandan Mitra were among 30 candidates elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
The BJP garnered five seats, the DMK three, the SP, the NCP and the AIADMK two apiece and the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Shiv Sena one each as all 30 made it to the Upper House after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations drew to close this evening.

18 Sep :The Union government on Thursday said that it won’t oppose the Delhi High Court order decriminalising homosexuality, and also said that it was up to the Supreme Court to take a final decision on the issue.

IIMC to have four more branches

8 Sep : The Indian Institute of Mass Communication will have four more branches – one each in Jammu & Kashmir, Mizoram as also one each in the Southern and Western India. The Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Smt Ambika Soni announced this at the 42nd Convocation function held at IIMC, New Delhi today. 27 Aug : Paving the way for moving to the next generation of mobile services, an empowered Group of Ministers on Thursday fixed Rs 3,500 crore as reserve price for 3G spectrum to be given to a maximum five players initially.
