4th edition of Santa Banta Women’s Car Rally, north India’s most popular motorsport event exclusively for women.
The rally is being organized on March 9 and 10 to celebrate International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8. This year, the Santa Banta Women’s Car Rally comes clubbed with a special addition – The largest Vintage-Cum-Classic Car Rally of north India. We are happy to announce that the Delhi Vintage Club, the Chandigarh Vintage Club and a collection of vintage and classic cars from Patiala & Ludhiana will participate in this event.
Both the rallies are being organized by Team Chandigarh Adventure Sports (TCAS), the largest motorsport club of the region, in association with Chandigarh Police. The scrutiny of the vehicles will be held on March 9. The rally will run on March 10, Sunday.
Chandigarh Police is associating with the Santa Banta Women’s Rally and also the Classic-cum -Vintage Car Rally because the message of these rallies is ‘Road Safety and Safety of Women’.
After the rally, Chandigarh Police will take out a flag march through the city to promote the message of road safety and safety of women. In order to spread this message, each vintage and classic car will carry placards. The women competitors will be given stickers to promote road safety and women’s safety.
Mr Gulpreet Aulakh, the founder of Team Chandigarh Adventure Sports, said that about 40 competitors will participate in the Santa Banta Women’s Car Rally. There will be about 30 competitors in the Classic-Cum-Vintage Car Rally.
Both the rallies will run simultaneously. They will follow the Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format, and adhere to all the traffic, speed and safety norms of the Union Territory.
Mr SPS Ghai, Founder-cum-CEO of santabanta.com said the rally is being organized to celebrate women empowerment. “This is a motorsport event exclusively for women. It combines skill on the wheels, the challenge of driving within the Time-Speed-Distance format, and a huge lot of fun. This is the fourth edition of the event, and we expect it to be as rocking and happening as the earlier events,” he said.
Carmel Ex-Students Association (CESA) is parterning with Team Chandigarh Adventure Sports for the women’s rally. Ms Mona Markanda, vice president CESA, said CESA is happy to associate with the rally because it promotes women’s safety. CESA will also have an official entry for the women’s rally.
The Santa Banta Women’s Rally and also the Classic-cum-Vintage Car Rally will travel through all the prominent places of the city. In the women’s rally, the catch is that the driver of the car has to be a woman. The navigator can be a man or a woman, and the total number of occupants in one car cannot exceed four.
The rally will begin from Hotel Park Plaza in the morning. After about three hours, it will end at the same venue.
The prize distribution function and the celebration dinner will also be held at Hotel Park Plaza. The rally is being sponsored by Paul Merchants, Chandigarh. Ms Vaneeta Kang, the Marketing Head (India) of Paul Merchants said both rallies are going to be happy, fun events for city residents. A woman can compete in any car of any make. No modifications are required in the car to participate in the event.
Participation is on first come first served basis, and enquiries are coming from diverse places for entry in the rally.
The entry fee for the vehicle is Rs 2,000 per car, for a team of driver and navigator. For each additional person, the charges are Rs 1000.
