CHANDIGARH, SEPT 29 : Punjab Under-19 brushed aside the Vidarbha Challenge by recording an emphatic seven-wicket win in the inaugural J.Y. Lele All India Invitation Tournament match played at Moti Bagh ground in Vadodara.
Vidarbha winning the toss and electing to bat were bowled out for 240 in 48.2 overs. Mohd Eklak 56 off 63 balls with 3 boundaries, Kaustabh Vyawahre 22, Akshay Agarwal 43 off 48 balls with 3 boundaries and Varun Palandurkar 63 off 72 balls with 6 boundaries were the main architects of Vidarbha innings. For Punjab Bhagmender Lathar 4 for 37 and left arm spinner Karan Bhargav 4 for 51 engineered the Vidarbha Collapse.
Replying Punjab opened with Karan Sharma and Sanvir Singh and the duo put on 99 runs for the first wicket before Karan Sharma was caught by Kaustabh Vyawahre off Akshay Agarwal for 59 off 57 balls inclusive of 5 boundaries and one six, Thereafter Sanvir Singh was jointed by Bhagmender Lather and the duo posted 73 runs partnership for the 2nd wiket before Lathar was caught by Onkar Dixit off Varun Palandurkar for 28.
Sanvir Singh went on to score his back to back century (100) off 90 balls with 11 boundaries and 2 sixes. Earlier in the semi finals he had scored a century against Mumbai. Punjab scored 242 for 3 in 43.4 overs. For Vidarbha Raj Chaudhary 1 for 73, Akshay Agarwal 1 for 39 and Varun Palandurkar 1 for 26 were the main wicket takers.
