CHANDIGARH, OCT 3 : Punjab routed Himachal Pradesh by 109 runs in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala today.
Winning the toss and electing to bat Punjab scored 257 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs. Punjab had an early setback when their star batsman Shubman Gill was caught by R.C. Singh off N.A. Sharma with teams total reading 1 for 7. Then Karan Sharma and Sanvir Singh added 45 runs for the second wicket before Karan Sharma was caught by N.K.Kanwar off A.S.Jamwal for 28.
Thereafter skipper Anmolpreet Singh joined Sanveer Singh and the two put on 69 runs for the third wicket before Sanveer Singh was caught by S.G.Arora off C.S.Malhotra for 53 off 91 balls with 8 boundaries. Anmolpreet Singh went on to score 69 off 74 balls inclusive of 5 boundaries and one six.
For Himachal Pradesg A.S.Jamwal (2 for 28), M.J. Dagar (2 for 54) and C.S. Malhotra (2 for 70) shared the spoils.
Replying HPCA were bowled out for 148 in 45 overs. M.J. Dagar unbeaten 55 off 72 balls inclusive of 4 boundaries and one six was the most successful batsman for HPCA.
The bowling honours for Punjab were shared by left arm spinner Prerit Dutta (3 for 24), off spinner Akul Partap Pandove (2 for 32) and right arm leg spinner Mayank Markande (2 for 38). Punjab won by 109 runs to log 4 points while HPCA got zero.
