SANJAY PAHWA, CHANDIGARH MAY 02: Punjab Chief Minister Mr. ParkashSingh Badal today offered to allot 20 acres of land somewhere near Chandigarh to the starcricketer Mr. Yuvraj Singh for setting up of a world class sports academy.
Mr. Yuvraj Singhaccompanied by his mother Mrs. Shabnam Singh today called on Mr. Badal at hisresidence this morning. Mr.Badal enquired about his well being and wished him speedy recovery and best ofhealth.
Mr. Badal highly appreciated the proposal put forth by Mr. Yuvraj Singh to establishstate-of-the-art sports academy near Chandigarhto impart training to the budding players in cricket, hockey, golf and tennisbesides boarding and lodging facilities for the players. The Chief Minister asked hisPrincipal Secretary to finalize the modalities for the allotment of requisiteland. Mr. Badalapprised Mr. Yuvraj Singh that the state government had already set up a sportsschool at Ghudha in Bathinda district to impart quality education and sportstraining to our youth to enable them to exhibit their talent at national aswell as international tournaments.
Mr. Badal further saidthat the Punjab was the first state toformulate its sports policy to honour the eminent sports persons who haveexcelled in national as well as international championships by offering themgovernment jobs besides giving handsome prize money.
