CHANDIGARH, APRIL 14 : Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Nagpur registered victories in the Bank of India Inter- Zone Cricket Tournament being played at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium and Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36 here today.
Pune defeated New Delhi by eight runs; Mumbai accounted for Chennai by 124 runs; Hyderbad outplayed Bhopal by 85 runs and Nagpur routed Lucknow by nine wickets
Pune Zone outclassed New Delhi Zone by 8 runs in the inaugural match at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium.
Pune Zone won the toss and elected to bat first but just posted a modest total of 73 for 9 in allotted 20 overs. Mangesh Vadiya (24) and Sham Oka (16) were the main contributors for them. Vijay Gatta captured three wickets for seven runs whereas Ramesh Sharma, Sanjeev Tandon and Raj Kumar chipped in with two wickets a piece.
Chasing a small looking total New Delhi Zone were bundled out for 65 runs in 17.2 overs due to an excellent spell of bowling by Rahul Ghodke who finished with a five wickets haul and very well supported by Sham Oka who claimed three wickets without giving away any run off his 2.2 overs and won the match for their team by 8 runs.
Fine knocks by Paresh Sultane (72) and Vinod Gote (25 not out) helped Nagpur Zone outplayed Lucknow by nine wickets.
Vinod Gogte (4 for 20) and Dalip Chaudhary (3 for 18) helped Nagpur to restrict Lucknow to 113 all out in 13 overs with Suyash top-scoring with 24. Nagpur replied with 117 for 1 in 11.3 overs. Paresh Sultane played a brilliant knock of 72 and Vinod Gote remaining not out on 25.
Earlier, Mr R A Sankara Narayanan, General Manager, Head Office, Bank of India inaugurated the tournament. Mr Tarlochan Singh, General Manager, NBG (North) and Mr K L Sharma, Zonal Manager, Chandigarh zone were also present on the occasion. The day/night final will be held on April 18 at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium,Chandigarh.
