CHANDIGARH, MAY 31
Mr. CSR Reddy, IPS ADGP Punjab Police, Chairman North Zone Civil Services Golfing Society, today announced a 12-member, including two reserves, North Zone team to participate in the forthcoming All-India Civil Services Golf Championship.
The team was selected on the basis of gross score of the players who competed in the 8th North Zone Civil Services Golf Tournament in which 80 officers including 21 Retired Officers from five states of northern india teed off on the lush greens of Chandigarh Golf Club here today.
The Golf Course was playing in excellent conditions, though the sunny and humid day conditions and fast putting greens did test the professional confidence of few golfers. In the serving officers category Rupinder Singh, SSP Punjab Police and Rajeev Moudgill Chief Engineer with PUDA finished the round with 3 overs but Rupinder Singh played better 9 than his competitor and claimed the winner’s trophy.
In retired officers category BB Kaushik from Haryana lifted the trophy leaving behind Jaswant Singh Kharia with 4 strokes lead.
In special prizes Sahil from the invitess category hit his golf ball 340 yards on the 4th fairway and claim the prize. PK Chaudhary, former Chief Secretary, Haryana clinched the prize of nearest to pin by placing the ball 8 feet 8 inches on the 14th hole. On the 9th hole any golfer hitting the longest ball in his own fourball was awarded a prize. Ten golfers were lucky to beat our professional golfer Harmeet Singh Kahlon, Arjuna Awardee, on the third hole and claimed a prize.
Mr. PS Pruthi IRS, President, Chandigarh Golf Assocation gave away the prizes.
