CHANDIGARH, OCT 13 : Delhi Public School, Sector 40 caused a mild upset by upsetting St Soldier International School, Sector 28 by 3-1 on penalties after playing a lackluster Group D match in the Chandigarh Sub-Junior (Boys) Championship for Coca Cola Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy at the Sector 17 Football Ground here today.
DPS custodian Sumit Singh Bedi held the spotlight during tie-breaker as he made two brilliant saves to thwart the attempts of St Soldier International School. Only Padma was able to convert his spot kick. Ashu, Sukhkarman and Sandeep muffed their penalties.
Delhi Pubic School converted their penalties through Dhruv, Abhirup and Ekham to engineer their victory.
Scoring one goal in each half, St Xavier’s School, Sector 44 beat St Kabir School, of Sector 26 by 2-0 in another group D match. Nitish scored in the 14th minute and Gagandeep confirmed the lead in the 45th minute.
In the third group C fixture, Strawberry Field of Sector 26 blanked Ajit Karam Singh International Public School, Sector 45 by 3-0. Ekham was the star performer for the winners by scoring two goals in the 40th and 44th minutes. It was Naman who had given Strawberry Field the lead in the 27th minute.
In the Group C outing, Government Model High School, Sector 26 defeated Government Model School, Sector 22 by 2-0. Vijay (18th) and Mohit (35th) were the winners’ goal-getters.
As Government Model School, Sector 20 did not turn up for their match as their opponents Shishu Niketan, Sector 22 were awarded a walkover. Tribune Model School, Sector 29 walked over KVS, Sector 47 who played truant.
