Chandigarh, May 7- Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Department has invited nominations in the prescribed proforma for Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award-2011 for giving due recognition to the achievements made by persons in the field of adventure.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Department said that all the District Sports and Youth Affairs Officers in the State had been asked to recommend the names of those persons for the award who have exceptional achievements in the adventure activities on land, sea and air. Nominations had also been invited of the persons with disabilities who have got outstanding achievements in adventure activities.
He said that nominations should reach the Directorate by May 10, 2012 so that the same could be forwarded on time to the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, he added.
He said that Government of India would set up a Special Committee to scrutinize all the entries and make its recommendations to a National Selection Committee to be headed by the Minister, Youth Affairs and Sports.
He said that the distinction of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award was similar to Arjuna Awards conferred in the field of sports by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Adventure Award carries a bronze statuette, a scroll of honour, a blazer with a silken tie or a saree and a cash prize of Rs five lakh, he added.
