CHANDIGARH, AUG 7 : Left handed Ankita Rana of India caused a mild upset as she defeated seventh seeded Andrea Gomiz of Venegula in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 in the second round singles match in the $25,000 ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament in Koksijde (Belgium).
Ahmedabad-based Ankita will meet qualifier Cindy Burger of Netherlands in the quarter-final match. Cindy upset second seed Dinu Cristina of Romania 3-6 6-2 7-6 (5) in the pre-quarter fixture.
SOWJANYA-RISHIKA IN DOUBLES SEMIS:Top seeded Indian pair of Sowjanya Bavisetti (Ind) / Rishika Sunkara took their appointed place in the doubles semi-final after beating Mahitha Dadi Reddy (India) / Elke Lemmens (Belgium) 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the $10,000 ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament at Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt).
Sowjanya-Rishika will next meet Ao Gai (China) / Ekaterina Lavrikova (Russia) who ousted third seeded Dianne Hollands (Nzl) / Anastasia Kharchenko (Ukr) 2-6, 6-3, 10-5.
However, another India duo of Anushka Bhargava and Shivika Burman were eliminated by fourth seeded pair of Alessia Camplone (Italy) / Pauline Payet (France) in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
