CHANDIGARH, APRIL 18 : All-round performance by Mumbai Zone skipper Vinit Sarang (55 and 3 for 21) enabled his team to clinch the trophy by defeating Nagpur Zone by 8 wickets with 18 balls to spare in the Day-Night final match of the Bank of India Inter-Zone Cricket Tournament at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium here tonight.
Mumbai Zone won the toss and elected to field first. Their bowlers bowled a very tight line and length and did not allow the Nagpur Zone batsmen to score freely. However, Paresh Sutane was unstoppable as he played a calculated unbeaten innings of 97 runs. He paced his innings very well and scored runs at will. His innings was studded with eleven hits to fence and four towering sixes.
In last they managed to post a respectable total of 133 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Vinit Sarang was most succesful bowler for Mumbai Zone as he captured 3 wickets at the cost of 21 runs
Chasing to a good total Vinit Sarang (55) and Sameer Apte (36) laid a solid foundation with a 98 runs partnership. Apte was first to depart as he was cleaned up by Paresh Sutane. Vinit Sarang missed the line against left arm spinner Umesh Shastri and stumps were shattered. But before departing he took his team to the victory door and their remaining batsman achieved the target with ease.
