Chandigarh, April 21: Today to mark the World Earth Day and Global Youth Service Day, Yuvsatta (an NGO) in association with Department of Environment and Earth Day Network organized 7th Inter-School Bicycle Games. Around 500 students of over 30 prominent Schools participated in various events.
Giving information about the programme Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta shared that every year to promote the culture of cycling in the city they organize these fun games which includes slow cycling, zig-zag race, exchanging balls while cycling, riding on just one tyre, bicycle decoration contests and many riders on a single bicycle contesting for winning.
Santosh Kumar, Director Department of Environment & Conservator of Forests, Chandigarh Administration felicitated the winners. Addressing the students he said that many of us will mark the World Earth Day based on our concerns over climate change, environmental destruction or dangers to our food supply, but it’s a time to consider our record as keepers of our lands and waters, a world blessed with bountiful natural resources. He further said that young ones should become the ‘Agents of change’ by adopting lifestyle which supports the environment like more use of bicycles and adopting the 3 R’s of recycling, reuse, reduce. Saurabh Kumar, Dy. Conservator of Forests and Kuldeep Kumar, IFS were also present on the occasion.
Three Schools were honoured as ‘Overall Best Schools’ for winning the maximum number of prizes. These Schools were Sri Aurobindo School, New Public School and Government Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 21A. And prominent winners of bicycle games were; Slow cycling-1st Prize junior boys-Kunal of Tribune Model School, 1st Prize junior girls-Alisha of GMSSS-19 C, 1st Prize senior boys-Abhiskek of GMSSS-21A, 1st Prize senior girls-Jyoti of Tribune Model School,
