Chandigarh, September 14, 2013. Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Ex-City MP and National Chairman of the BJP’s Committee on Legal Affairs & Election Commission Issues, has condemned the arrests of hundreds of residents of Chandigarh, today, by the local police, to make the official visit of the Prime Minister to Chandigarh a success. He said that inspite of all efforts by the Congress leaders and certain officials of the Local Administration, who are dancing to the tune of Congress leaders, the visit of the Prime Minister was a ‘flop show’, the residents did not pay any heed to Prime Minister’s visit, the chairs in the Pandal were empty and there was no response by the people to Prime Minister’s visit.
Mr. Jain said that never in the history of Chandigarh, hundreds of Chandigarhian’s were arrested and detained in Police Stations, the way it was done today during the Prime Minister’s visit. He said that today almost every police station was looking like a temporary jail where people were arrested and detained without any reason. Mr. Jain visited various police stations including in Sectors 26, 34, 39, Industrial Area and Mauli Jagran and met hundreds of people belonging to BJP, BSP, Jan Sangharsh Samiti etc. who were detained there.
Mr. Jain said that to hold peaceful demonstration even against the Prime Minister is the constitutional right of every Indian citizen, a right that was suppressed today by the lathi of the police by the Congress led Central Government and the Local Administration.
Mr. Jain demanded that an enquiry be held into the harassment caused to the citizens as well as the unnecessary expenditure incurred on the Prime Minister’s visit today and appropriate action be taken against the Congress leaders and the concerned officials responsible for it.
