In Uttarakhand, nine people were killed and 15 others injured in three separate accidents during the past 24 hours. Police said in Dehra Dun today that three persons were killed and 13 others injured when the bus in which they were traveling fell into a pit at Borari area of Tehri district today.
The bus, carrying 16 passengers, was on its way to Rishikesh from New Tehri when it fell into the 100-meter-deep pit, killing two persons on the spot. Another person succumbed to injuries in a hospital. The injured have been hospitalised and the condition of two of them is stated to be serious, they said.
In another accident at Jaspur area of Udhamsingh Nagar district, four people were killed and two injured when their car rammed into a truck last night. The two injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital.
In yet another accident, two brothers were crushed to death under the wheels of a bus at Purnagiri area of Champawat district today.
Chief minister Vijay Bahuguna expressed grief over the accidents and ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Tehri mishap. The chief minister also directed the administration to provide an ex-gratia of 50,000 rupees each to the next of kin of the deceased.
