“It’s a positive step forward by the Department of Archaeology and Museums to reduce the number of elephant rides during the hot summer months at Amer Fort, but ultimately elephants are wild animals and should not to be ridden at all.
“Taken from the wild, torn from their mothers, elephants endure cruel and intensive training before they will allow people to ride on their backs. A life in tourist entertainment is no life for an elephant.”
“Our advice is simple: If you love animals do not visit tourist attractions that use elephants for entertainment, because wild animals belong to the wild.” said Gajender K Sharma, India Country Director at World Animal Protection.
