The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today described the results of the two assembly by-elections in Punjab as “a vindication of the programmes, policies and performance of the SAD-BJP govt. in the state a major set-back to the Congress party, as we not only gained the Talwandi Sabo seat from the Congress but also considerably increased our vote share in Patiala assembly constituency compared with the results of the assembly segment in the last Lok Saba poll.
“The results in both the Constituencies also showed that the Congress was clearly on the way out in the state,” said Mr. Badal. The Chief Minister said the results of the Talwandi Sabo constituency showed a record margin of 46, 642 , which must come a shock and an eye opener to the Congress.
The Chief Minister thanked the people and voters in the two constituencies for greatly enhancing the position and prestige of the SAD-BJP in both constituencies and said that the victory in Talwandi Sabo and the improved vote-share in Patiala were proof of the faith of the people in the policies and programmers of the government.
Mr. Badal pointed out that while the SAD-BJP snatched the Talwandi Sabo seat from the Congress, which had won here in the last assembly elections, the alliance improved its vote share in Patiala from nearly 16342 to 29685 an increase of 13343. This showed an improvement of nearly 100% over the performance in Lok Sabha poll.
The Chief Minister thanked the people and voters of the two constituencies for reiterating their faith in the SAD-BJP Alliance and said that the results would “further strengthen our resolve to serve the people of the state with greater zeal, commitment and humility.
He also thanked the workers and office-bearers of the SAD-BJP for working day and night in spreading the progressive and pro-people message of the alliance among the people there.
The Chief Minister also said that his assessment that the AAP was just a flash in the pan in the state politics had also been vindicated as that party has been wiped out in the poll.
