5 Feb : Manish Tewari Member Lok Sabha and National Spokesperson A.I.C.C as Chief-Guest at Annual Convocation and Prize Distribution Function here today in S.D.P. College for Women, Ludhiana said that in the present scenario education has to be viewed as a dynamic force capable of generating tremendous goodwill and librating masses from the bondage of old orthodox systems and ideologies. He urged young women graduates to bear the mantle of nation building as they constitute almost half the population and if India has to grow and next century has to be the Asian century then women who have benefited from the education system of the country must contribute by working in nation building. Talking about the role of women he asked young women to take cue from the life of Sudha Murthy wife of Sh. Narayan Murthy as to how she became source of inspiration in building an iconic institution like INFOSYS. Advising young graduates that the transition from academic life to real may not be seamless but one has to be bold, brave and confident in tackling challenges thrown up to them as challenges are opportunities in themselves in helping them become self sufficient and economically independent. Appreciating the efforts of the managing committee Mr. Tewari said that educating young women, running academic institutions and ensuring quality and job placements are the greatest service which only men of vision and mission can perform.
Earlier Mr. Manish Tewari was accorded a warm welcome by Sh. Balraj Bhasin, President S.D.P. Sabha (Regd.) and College Governing Body, Principal Dr. (Mrs) Meenu Sharma, Director Ms. S. Verma, Heads of other S.D.P. Educational Institutions Sh. Ashok Verma, Sh. Jasveer Chauhan, Sh. Sanjeev Bindra and Ms. Tarrannum Fatima Members of Management, Staff and Students, Hon’ble Chief Guest Mr. Tewari paid floral tribute to late Sh. Om Parkash Gupta Former M.L.A. and President S.D.P. Sabha who was whole heartedly committed to women empowerment and upliftment of the poor and the destitute. Those who accompanied Mr. Tewari were Mrs. Sushila Gupta Ex Dy. Mayor, Pawan Deawn Gen Secy PCC, Raman Kumar Subramanium and Parminder Mehta municipal Councillor.
The function began with Saraswati Vandana, Mr. Manish Tewari Chief-Guest along with Sh. Balraj Bhasin, President Director Ms. S. Verma, Principal Dr. (Ms) Meenu Sharma Sh. Lekh Raj Arora, Sh. H.K. Chugh lighted the traditional jyoti symbolic of knowledge and information. President Sh. Balraj Bhasin offered a formal welcome to the Chief-guest highlighting his glorious achievements and illustrious academic and political career. Director Ms. Sushil Verma highlighted the activities and achievements of the college in academic and co-academic spheres. Mr. Tewari conferred degrees on 486 Graduates and Post-Graduates in the discipline of Computer Science, Commerce and Arts. Toppers of all classes of University Exams held in April, 2009 were also given away prizes by the Hon’ble Chief Guest.
Dr. Meenu Sharma, Principal thanked the chief-guest and dignitaries who spared time from their busy schedule and graced the occasion.
