LUDHIANA, May 3: Congress candidate from Ludhiana parliamentary constituency Manish Tewari today blamed the ruling Akali-BJP alliance for denying the Ludhianvis an international airport by shifting it from Halwara to Mohali.
Addressing a press conference Tewari released the information sought from the ministry of civil aviation government of India where in it was clearly mentioned that after the Punjab government decided to construct an international airport at Mohali, the proposal for Halwara was not pursued.
Replying to another charge by the Akalis that there was never any proposal of a Greenfield airport at Ladowal, Tewari released separate set of answers procured through RTI Act which said that there was a definite proposal for building up a Greenfield airport at Ladowal. Modalities had been worked out. However, it was not cleared by the Union Defence ministry as the take off and landing area was coming close to the Halwara air base.
About the claims of the Akali-BJP government that it had proposed to set up an airport in Ludhiana district, Tewari clarified that the proposal was from a private company and not from the state government. He pointed out, the Akali-BJP government was only spreading lies and lies. “This is the reason that I have come to you with substantial proof procured under RTI act from the union civil aviation ministry”, he said, while hoping that the record would be set straight henceforth.
